The Sea
Reverent attention to nature -
A meditation on the Sea and how it reflects the conscious and subconscious mind, with all the elements that get created, destroyed and rebuilt within it. What comes to the surface and what stays hidden.
Documenting what the sea gives back, finding value and meaning in what's been broken or cast out. The beauty of random, organic objects, untouched. Centuries of pressure and movement and salt and light, continually reshaping into unexpected beauty.
This is a work on stillness. Still life vignettes, but unplanned. Unposed. The juxtaposition of random micro-elements, to the vastness of the sea.
The sea represents the realm of emotion, the formless potential beneath the surface, and the boundary between the known and the infinite - where things dissolve and reform. What washes ashore after a storm—the debris, the broken, the unexpected—that's the material of transformation. The sea doesn't judge what it holds or what it returns; it simply moves. In that way, it's also a mirror for acceptance and surrender, for allowing what needs to surface to surface, and what needs to sink to sink.
The sea and the subconscious move together in a way that feels almost literal. The surface of the water is what’s visible, the conscious mind, the rational, the controlled. Beneath it is everything beyond immediate access: memory, emotion, instinct, the material the psyche is always working on without conscious participation.
Witnessing transformation, without imposing. Rather, recognizing it. That restraint, that refusal to move anything -as a form of reverence.
